Exciting News! We're Featured on NBC Sports



We're so excited! Word is spreading about our film. On October 2, 2011 NBC Sports used footage from our documentary trailer to highlight youth rugby and lend their support for the film during the New Zealand vs. Canada World Cup Rugby halftime show. 




"SCRUM - Rugby in the Inner City"  is a feature-length documentary following the journey of student athletes from ICEF Public Schools' highly successful rugby program as they travel around the globe to learn, compete, and connect with people from different cultures.


The highly regarded program is a middle and high school league based in South Los Angeles for boys and girls tackle rugby.


The film will follow the personal lives and adventures of the students and coaches as they learn train, compete and travel this upcoming school year - all culminating in a exciting trip to New Zealand in March 2012.

ICEF Public Schools' Rugby Program is a middle and high school based league in 

South Los Angeles for boys and girls tackle rugby. 

Renowned for its highly successful independent public charter schools in traditionally underserved communities of L.A., ICEF's rugby programs are one way of opening up a wider world to students, through travel and interactions with the truly diverse rugby community.

About the Producers

Dennis Lovelace is an independent film/TV producer and new media professional with well over 20 years of experience in both entertainment and television news industries.

Utilizing his unique creative and technical abilities, Dennis formed a new media production company, LovelaceMedia, in which he helps for-profit companies and non-profits harness the power of internet as well as traditional media by creating engaging websites, creative programming and innovative web content in order to deliver their brand and message to their clients/audiences worldwide.

Stuart Krohn is the Director of the ICEF Rugby Program. He coached the Santa Monica Men’s Club for 10 years and in 2003 started the rugby program at ICEF Public Schools. Previously he coached rugby at Dartmouth College, was an international player for 13 years and was an All-American rugby player at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  Mr. Krohn has simultaneously taught English at ICEF’s View Park Preparatory School for eleven years.

  • We did it!!! THANK YOU!

    Wow! in 45 days we raised $22,677 that's 151% over our initial goal. All I can say is... thank you for believing in me and "SCRUM". Huge gratitude to all of you who donated, who Liked the site, who joined our Facebook page, who posted and forwarded our links, who have offered so many different kinds of help, support and creativity!

    Now, the next phase begins.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be getting the rewards out to those who have pledged and of course continue shooting. It's a busy time for the students right now as they are applying to colleges and scholarships. And rugby practice will also be starting soon. Stuart has been very busy planning the NZ trip, raising funds and coordinating the program as it expands to other schools throughout LA.

    There's still lots of work ahead of us. But it is much closer to realization, thanks to you!  We'll do our best to keep you updated, and invite you to stay connected through our Web site at:  www.scrummovie.com.

    • UPDATE: NEW GOAL OF $30K!

      WOW! We have already reached our minimum goal! The past two weeks has been very exciting for us. I want to sincerely thank each and every backer of this project. Stuart and I are overwhelmed by the response and your kind words of support.

      Some of you have even been asking if we can exceed our target and the answer is YES! We can raise as much money as possible before our November 6 deadline, which is why we've set a new goal of $30,000.

      When we set up this project, we set our goal at $15,000 because we didn't want to set it so high that we risked not funding at all, but the truth is we need much more than that to make the film. The funds raised here are just a fraction of the cost so your support will most certainly help us move this project forward with less of a hurdle. Please understand that every dollar raised will go towards making this an even better film.

      So Let's keep at it, please continue to spread the word! Help us reach that $30K mark. Even a $5 pledge will make a huge difference!
